The Role

Accountant / Financial Controller
Location: Co. Carlow

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
• Prepare monthly management accounts and KPI reports.
• Produce annual statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors/accountants.
• Maintain the general ledger, fixed asset register, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Monitor margins by business unit (composting, skip hire, waste collection, and product sales).
Budgeting and Forecasting
• Prepare annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
• Analyse variances and provide recommendations to management.
• Model investment proposals and capital expenditure projects.
Cash Flow and Treasury
• Manage daily cash flow and banking relationships.
• Prepare short- and long-term cash flow forecasts.
• Monitor debtor collections and creditor payments.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
• Oversee purchase ledger, supplier reconciliations, and payment runs.
• Manage customer invoicing, credit control, and debt collection.
• Ensure customer and supplier master data accuracy.
Payroll
• Manage weekly payroll.
• Manage PAYE, PRSI, pensions, and related statutory submissions.
Tax and Compliance
• Prepare and file VAT, PAYE, and CSO returns.
• Ensure compliance with Revenue regulations.
• Support grant reporting and environmental regulatory submissions.
Operational and Commercial Support
• Assist with tender submissions and pricing analysis.

Systems and Controls
• Strengthen internal controls and financial procedures.
• Improve reporting automation.
• Support digitisation of financial and operational data.

The Person

Candidate Requirements
Qualifications
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CPA) or possibly qualified by experience
• Proven experience in a senior accounting or financial controller role.

Experience
• SME and owner-managed business experience preferred.
• Experience with Sage Line 50
Technical Skills
• Strong financial reporting and management accounting skills.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Knowledge of Irish tax and payroll legislation.
Personal Attributes
• Hands-on and practical approach.
• Strong communication skills.
• Commercial mindset with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

• Monthly accounts completed within agreed deadlines.
