The Role

Indirect Tax Consutant (VAT Specialist) - Permanant

Location: Dublin 12

 

We are seeking to appoint an Indirect Tax Consultant to join our growing team. This is a newly created role reflecting the continued international expansion of the business across Europe. The successful candidate will provide specialist VAT and indirect tax support across Ireland and the wider EMEA region, ensuring compliance with applicable VAT legislation while identifying opportunities to improve tax processes, controls, and efficiency.
The role will work closely with Finance, and other business stakeholders to provide practical VAT advice and support the organisation's EMEA operations. will be part of the finance & tax team and act as the primary liaison with Operations Directors across multiple European sites.

 

Key Responsibilities

VAT Compliance
• Manage and oversee Irish VAT compliance activities, including VAT returns, EC Sales Lists, Intrastat and other applicable indirect tax filings.
• Support VAT compliance across relevant EMEA jurisdictions, working with local advisors and external service providers where required.
• Review VAT calculations, reconciliations, tax codes, and supporting documentation.
• Ensure VAT liabilities and recoverable VAT are accurately identified and recorded.
• Monitor VAT filing deadlines and ensure timely submission and payment.
• Support VAT registrations, deregistrations, and changes to VAT obligations.

VAT Advisory
• Provide day-to-day VAT advice to the business on domestic and cross-border transactions.
• Advise on the VAT treatment of goods, services, imports, exports, intra-EU transactions, and international supply chains.
• Provide guidance on VAT implications in new jurisdictions.
• Research changes in Irish and EMEA VAT legislation and assess their impact on the business.
• Support the interpretation and implementation of complex VAT rules across multiple jurisdictions.

Tax Technology & Process Improvement
• Support the design and maintenance of VAT processes, policies, and controls.
• Identify opportunities to automate VAT processes and improve data quality.
• Assist with VAT aspects of ERP, finance system, and tax technology implementations.
• Review VAT determination and tax coding within ERP systems.
• Develop and maintain VAT reporting and reconciliation processes.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across the EMEA indirect tax function.

Audits & Tax Authority Engagement
• Manage or support Irish Revenue and other EMEA tax authority queries and VAT audits.
• Coordinate responses to information requests and ensure appropriate supporting documentation is maintained.
• Assist with VAT risk assessments, voluntary disclosures, and remediation projects where required.
• Work with external advisors on complex VAT matters and audits.

Business Partnering
• Partner with Finance team to ensure VAT considerations are incorporated into business decisions.
• Provide VAT training and guidance to relevant stakeholders.
• Build strong working relationships with finance team and external tax advisors across EMEA.
• Communicate technical VAT matters clearly to non-tax stakeholders.

The Person

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience
• Professional tax, accounting, finance, or equivalent qualification desirable.
• 3–7 years' experience in indirect tax/VAT, preferably with significant Irish VAT exposure.
• Strong knowledge of Irish VAT legislation and practical VAT compliance.
• Experience with VAT across multiple EMEA jurisdictions.
• Experience working with cross-border transactions and EU VAT rules.
• Experience supporting VAT audits and tax authority queries.
• Experience in an in-house tax function, Big Four/accounting firm, or specialist VAT advisory environment.

Technical Skills

• Reverse-charge mechanisms

• Familiarity with VAT automation and tax technology is advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
