Cost Accountant

We are looking for a qualified Cost Accountant with manufacturing experience to join a busy finance team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting business performance through accurate product costing, variance analysis and commercial financial insight.

Key Responsibilities

The role will include responsibility for:

  • Product costing, including new product development, recipe and packaging changes.
  • Maintaining accurate product costing data, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routing information.
  • Supporting pricing decisions, tenders and commercial proposals through detailed costing and financial modelling.
  • Leading or supporting the annual Cost of Production (COP) budgeting process.
  • Producing meaningful cost analysis and identifying opportunities to improve margins and profitability.
  • Reviewing and analysing material, labour and purchase price variances, providing clear commentary and recommendations.
  • Business partnering with Operations, Procurement, Commercial and NPD teams to support decision-making.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across costing processes, financial controls and reporting.
  • Contributing to ERP system enhancements, costing projects and process improvements where required.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment with strong standard costing knowledge.
  • Experience analysing manufacturing variances and product costing.
  • Strong ERP systems experience (IFS or similar would be advantageous).
  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A proactive, commercially minded and continuous improvement approach.
