Assistant Accountant

Gowran, Co, Kilkenny – Permanent

Salary: €35,000 – 40,000 + Benefits

Office Based


My client is seeking to appoint an experienced Assistant Accountant on a permanent basis.

Candidates must have a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a similar role and can be IATI qualified or working towards professional exams.

Strong Excel skills are required for this role.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing all bank receipts & all bank payments daily
  • Reconciling all bank accounts daily
  • Accurately receipt and allocate payments to all ledgers on a daily basis
  • Processing weekly nominal journals
  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly Vies & Intrastat returns to revenue
  • Support month end closure processes
  • Responsible for the valuation of all stocks for inclusion in month end accounts
  • Upkeep of Fixed Asset & Depreciation register
  • Oversee credit insurance for debtors
  • Preparing customer rebate calculations at month end
  • Preparing month end overhead analysis reports
  • Assisting with Audit preparation
  • Assisting with Budget preparation
  • Creating efficiencies through continuous improvement of processes
  • Processing invoices & Credit Notes when required
  • Providing back up for Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable when necessary
  • Providing back up for payroll department (Training will be provided)
  •  Other ad-hoc tasks and projects that may arise

The Person

Key Skills:

  • A relevant qualification of a recognised body is required (ACCA/ACA/CIMA)
  • Must have experience in a similar role
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
  • Excellent timekeeping, with the ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Strong IT Skills with a good knowledge of MS office packages - specifically Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
  • Highly motivated with an ability to take ownership and multi-task
  • Ability to pro-actively communicate with third parties
