Assistant Accountant 1 year contract

Contract Type: Full-time, 1-year fixed-term contract, with a view to extension subject to business needs and performance.
Role Overview
The Assistant Accountant will support the day-to-day running of the finance function, helping with routine accounting tasks, payroll administration, accurate record keeping, and timely processing of financial information. This role is well suited to someone at an early stage in their finance career who is eager to learn, build practical experience, and develop within a supportive finance team.

The Assistant Accountant will support the day-to-day running of the finance function, helping with routine accounting tasks, payroll administration, accurate record keeping, and timely processing of financial information. This role is well suited to someone at an early stage in their finance career who is eager to learn, build practical experience, and develop within a supportive finance team.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with routine finance tasks including data entry, invoice processing, and maintaining accurate records.
• Support accounts payable activities.
• Assist in preparing journals, accruals, and prepayments under supervision.
• Support the preparation of month-end reports and other finance information.
• Assist with payroll administration, including gathering timesheet or payroll input information, checking records for accuracy, and supporting payroll processing activities.
• Help maintain payroll records and respond to routine payroll-related queries, escalating issues where appropriate.
• Process employee expenses and ensure supporting paperwork is complete.
• Respond to routine queries from suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Provide administrative support to the finance team as required.
• Carry out other ad hoc duties appropriate to the role.

The Person

Candidate Profile
Essential:
• Some previous experience in an office, accounts, administration, or finance support role would be an advantage.
• Good numerical skills and attention to detail.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage routine tasks effectively.
• Good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
• A reliable and professional approach when handling confidential information.
Desirable:
• Experience using accounting or ERP systems.
• Previous payroll administration experience or exposure to payroll processes would be an advantage.
• Exposure to invoice processing, reconciliations, or month-end tasks.
• An interest in developing a career in finance or accounting.
