The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Accountant in Practice to join their team. The successful candidate will manage a varied portfolio of SME clients and be responsible for delivering high-quality accounting, audit and tax work within agreed timelines and budgets.
This role is suited to a professional who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a close-knit team, with a practical, solutions-focused approach to client service.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Client Work
• Preparation and review of year-end statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies under FRS 102 / FRS 105
• Preparation and review of management accounts
• Preparation and submission of Corporation Tax (CT1) and Income Tax (Form 11) returns and related computations
• Preparation and filing of VAT, PAYE and Relevant Contracts Tax (RCT) returns
• Payroll processing and bookkeeping
• Preparation of audit-exempt files and audit files to partner review stage, including PQA (ICAI / OmniPro)
• Liaising with Revenue, clients and other professional advisers
• Identifying technical or commercial issues and escalating where appropriate
• Assisting with tax planning opportunities suitable for SME clients
Planning, Delivery & Budget Management
• Planning assignments to ensure efficient delivery
• Managing own portfolio of work to meet agreed deadlines and fee budgets
• Monitoring job progress and proactively communicating any issues
• Understanding the commercial realities of fee-sensitive SME clients
• Contributing to improvements in workflows, templates and internal processes
Client Relationship Management
• Building and maintaining strong working relationships with SME clients
• Communicating clearly and professionally with clients, both verbally and in writing
• Explaining technical matters in a practical and accessible manner
• Responding to day-to-day client queries in a timely and solutions-focused way
Team Contribution
• Working collaboratively with partners and colleagues in a small-team environment
• Supporting and mentoring junior staff where appropriate
• Taking ownership of work and accountability for outcomes
• Maintaining a positive, flexible and professional attitude, particularly during busy periods
The Person
Essential
• ACA or ACCA qualified or part-qualified, with a minimum of three years’ experience in a small or medium-sized Irish accountancy practice
• Strong technical knowledge of Irish accounting standards, ISAs and tax legislation
• Experience working with SME clients
• Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously
• Proven ability to meet deadlines and work within agreed budgets
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Strong communication skills (email, written correspondence and telephone)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team
• Experience using common practice software, including Xero, Bright Accounts Production, Thesaurus, ITSS, CORE and ROS
Desirable
• Broad practice experience rather than narrow specialisation
• Exposure to advisory or value-added client work
• Experience reviewing or supervising junior staff
