The Role

Health & Safety Manager 


Permanent Role 


Based in Offaly

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:


• Proactively manage, support, and enable the improvement of H&S KPI's as per Business Unit and SMS requirements e.g. Accident reduction, Inspections, remedial action severity etc. Establish a benchmark standard for H&S KPI's e.g. accident statistics, H&S inspections, actions raised, training etc. using leading industry levels and improve the H&S Culture to reduce accident occurrence, increase H&S compliance and improve KPI performance. Act as a champion and leader for H&S within the Business Unit ensuring non-compliances are escalated to relevant management level to achieve solutions.

• Work with Head of EHS on H&S Initiatives, Programmes, and the Safety Strategy to ensure H&S Compliance and continuous improvement. Proactively participate and contribute to the Safety Strategy Plan. Responsible for the continuous improvements of Safety management to support and maintain a positive safety culture.Development, planning and delivery of appropriate Safety related information to inform management and Head of Business on Safety performance and plansfor improvement when/ if required. Develop a review system to ensure SMS documentation (e.g. RA Procedure, Safety Statements etc) are continuously up to date.

• Ensure all accidents, Dangerous Occurrence and Motor accidents are reported, investigated, and followed up as per SMS requirements to reduce the likelihood of recurrence. Work with the H&S team and relevant managers to ensure all employees have received mandatory training and ensure training is managed as per the SMS. Ensure the utilisation of appropriate occupational health surveillance programmes. Plan and ensure the execution of the annual H&S Inspections programme in line with  requirements. Support, lead and enforce the  Zero Tolerance for Safety Non-Compliances aim.

• Ensure all legal obligation for H&S and relevant best practices are identified and communicated effectively to management and the wider Senior Management team when required. Ensure H&S inspections are completed to confirm compliance with H&S legal and company requirements. Ensure a robust nonconformities procedure to include follow ups as per SMS requirements. Ensure all H&S Documentation is in line with legal and company requirements and as per Document control (SMS) e.g. Safety Statements. Development of H&S reports as per SMS and company requirements. Ensure SOPs are up to date and in line with Company policy and SMS e.g. Risk Assessment procedures. Support, direct and enable line management to execute their responsibilities relating to safety management of their direct reports e.g. advise on training requirements, risk assessments, SOPs.

• Ensure all internal and external health and safety reporting requirements are complied with, in consultation with the Head of EHS when required liaise with the H.S.A, Commission for Rail Regulations, insurance and liability adjusters on occupational injury claims and all relevant regulators who audit and inspect sites and activities  and manage any remedial actions/ recommendations through to completion and reporting.

• Co-operate, support, and encourage participation for all H&S Awareness campaigns, competitions, and programmes as per SMS requirements and develop specific focused campaigns, competitions and programmes as required. Ensure the H&S officers create communication channels with relevant supervisors and managers to proactively advise on H&S compliance requirements and remedial actions.

• Continuously maintain personal CPD.

• All employees are expected to co-operate fully with all provisions taken by the company for ensuring Health and Safety, and Welfare of co-employees and members of the public using the premises.

• Lead and Performance Manage your direct report(s). Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team's objectives.

The Person

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes;

• Third level qualification in Health & Safety or related discipline
• 10 years’ experience required with experience of manufacturing industry preferred
• Excellent report writing and communication skills required
• Proficient in stakeholder management
• Full proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite

The Package

Salary €63,000 - 83,000 DOE
